Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker is one of his most famous works, originally created for the Divine Comedy gate at the Musee des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Rodin is considered an important figure in 19th-century sculpture, whose innovative representational techniques broke with the reliance on extreme realism and Greek style at the time. Despite having no formal art education, Rodin gained extensive sculpture experience by working in other artists’ studios. Rodin worked in large studios as an assistant so that he could focus on his artistic conception.
